Building a patio? Here's what to think about..

  3 April 2018

Patios are far from being just a simple extension to your home. A patio has the power to completely transform your lifestyle by adding an outdoor haven where you can relax and enjoy a morning coffee, entertain friends for a dinner party or share a Sunday barbecue while the kids play in the backyard.

At THE Shed Company, we know how important it is to build a patio you LOVE, which is why we work with you to make sure you are getting exactly what you want! You can have peace of mind knowing that all our patios are engineered and tested to Australian industry standards using 100% COLORBOND® steel.

Attached or freestanding?

This will really depend on the layout of your home and what you want to achieve with your patio. If an outdoor extension of your existing home is what you want, then an attached patio is the way to go. If you want a distinct structure that acts as a feature in your backyard, then it would be worthwhile looking into a freestanding option. When deciding whether you want an attached or freestanding patio, it’s also important to consider how much room is required for this to work successfully in your space.

How much space do you have available?

This is one of the most important factors when you decide you want a patio. It’s easy to start planning an elaborate structure without considering the space available and what will comfortably fit in your backyard. Think about the sort of area you want - how big do you want your patio? What sort of furniture do you want in there? Does it have to fit a barbecue or garden? Once you get an idea, we will come and measure up for you and discuss what is realistic for you in terms of size and structure.

Types of patios

When choosing your patio, think about your indoor and outdoor space and what will be complementary. We have a variety of roof styles and layouts to choose from, each with their own shape and visual profile. Some different types we offer include gable roof, hip roof, dutch gable and flat roof. If you want something more unique, we also offer the choice to custom design, which gives you more design flexibility. The height and span required for your structure also plays a part in the type of patio that will best suit your home. For example, a gable roof patio spans beyond 10 metres if you require, making it ideal for those wanting a larger space covered.

Choose your colours!

At THE Shed Company, we only use the highest quality materials.

All our patios feature premium BlueScope Steel and you have the freedom to choose from a wide range of COLORBOND® steel colours. Your options are endless and you will probably find the hardest part is choosing your colour palette! You also have the choice to finish your posts and beams in a high gloss, giving you the ultimate premium look.

Regardless of the profile, design and colour you want, THE Shed Company will work with you to customise your patio to suit your home and lifestyle.
