For the past nine years, Riding for the Disabled Association (NSW), has been on a journey, establishing a centre in the serene enclave of the Secret Garden in Richmond, New South Wales. Their primary mission? To provide individuals with disabilities the opportunity to embrace the joys of horse riding and all the activities associated with it.
The journey began nine years ago when the centre was established. It started with a simple goal: to provide a sport for young adults from basic riding lessons all the way up to dressage competitions. However, like any undertaking, it came with its own set of challenges.
One of the early challenges was the limited space available, with only half the area and no shelter for the horses. This is where Rob and Tina from The Shed Company Sydney North came in. They designed an extension for the original arena which not only doubled their catchment for rainwater but also allowed them to recycle and use this valuable resource, as well as designing a range of day stables to protect the horses.
Yet, just when everything seemed to be falling into place, right before the securing of the stables during the construction process, Mother Nature had an unexpected twist in store. An unprecedented tornado roared through the region, leaving the stables in ruins.
However, this setback failed to break their spirits. The dedicated team at The Shed Company Sydney North swiftly dismantled the damaged structure and, within an astonishing three weeks, had rebuilt the stables anew.
